I'm trying out this monthly diary. I'm curious as to how this will go and if I will stick to it with the upcoming medical school application. |

I started my March with a trip to Benaroya Hall with Nyanji to see the Seattle Symphony play One Piece OST! I sat high above on the left side, but I could see the symphony members and the screen clearly. Even though I've been playing in orchestras since 11, I've never seen a professional orchestra play. The symphony outdone themselves- you can tell they all moved as one unit. Throughout my years playing cello, I am so used to someone playing out of tune or lifting their bow off at the wrong time. They seemed so synchronized; I found myself blown away. The screen played highlights from the anime, starting off with backstories and first encounters for most of the Straw Hat pirates. They then showed major battle and emotional moments throughout every arc leading up to Egghead. We had been encouraged to see along during We Are! and Bink's Sake, but they put the Japanese lyrics on the screen- I found it hilarious how the audience screamed out loud the minimal English lyrics and mumbled through the Japanese ones. People of all kinds came- I noticed millennial parents bringing their little kids, older Gen Z individuals like me, and younger high schoolers. I saw long-time fans in full cosplay, and those who only watched the Live Action- I overheard the latter feel shocked about learning that Luffy technically has two brothers! Nyanji and I made sure to stop by Ivar's for the seafood combo, a classic childhood treat for a Seattlelite like me. Happy Birthday to Sanji!

I love food and exploring my surroundings. Memorable meals include Black (Garlic) Tsukemen from Menya Musashi's, tomato garlic with beef hotpot at Swish Swish, hojicha dessert cup from a Japanese bakery, and a sushi burrito and aburasoba from area near my alma mater! For homemade meals, I really enjoyed this Chinese herb soup my mom made.

I started playing piano again because of Alice in Chains! I found myself going back down the rabbit hole of grunge throughout March, starting off with my favorite- Soundgarden. I watched every performance I could before sleep. Suddenly, with a twist of events, I landed on AIC's MTV unplugged performance. I knew the songs Would? and Nutshell, the latter being my favorite song from them, so I'd always return everyday. Craving for more, I began watching the entire performance daily, and I branched out toward their discography and other iconic moments like their Moore Theater performance in 1992. I began this emotional attachment to the band because in the meantime, I like looking up those silly "funny moments" videos, and I gotta say... they got good humor. I cannot believe I did not get into their music earlier! I did really like Jerry's work on Degradation Trip, but to be fair, I did not know about him being part of AIC until this month. I am a bit of a noob, sorry. I'm still wading through their discography, and I think I like Dirt the most as I never skip through the songs. However, Jar of Flies, Tripod, and Sap also have no skips too!! I still need to listen through Facelift and the albums post-2009. I went backwards from Degradation Trip to Boggy Depot, and I really liked that album too, especially Hurt A Long Time, Cold Piece, Settling Down... I cannot pick one! I love ballads as you can tell. So far, I've learned Nutshell and Down in a Hole, and I'm starting to put my hands together for Love, Hate, Love. I feel like a kid in an ice-cream shop with all this music.

I'm gonna say something cheesy, but the spring season means new beginnings, and I feel that to be especially relevant for me. Aside from reapplying to medical school, I am also entering a new job and saying goodbye to some volunteer positions I held in the past. This week I prepared bracelets and Asian desserts for the health professionals and patients there at the hospital I'm usually at. I'm going to miss the people there as they always have been supportive of my goals and my time there.
